Safe Medications During Pregnancy
The following medications can be used during your pregnancy in acute situations. They are available over the counter.
Acne - Benzyl Peroxide creams
Back Pain - Tylenol (Acetaminophen 650mg), Maternity Belt
Cold/Flu/Cough - Plain versions of: Tylenol, Mucinex, Robitussin, Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, Benadryl, Cough Drops (Halls, Vitamin C), Vick’s Vapor Rub, Nasal Saline
Constipation - Milk of Magnesia, Fiber Supplements (Metamucil, FiberCon, Fiber Choice, Citrucel, Benefiber), Dulcolax, Colace, use glycerin or dulcolax suppositories sparingly if necessary
Diarrhea - Don’t eat for 4-6 hours, start clear liquids, then progress to bland foods. Imodium and Kaopectate can be used sparingly.
Fever - Tylenol (Acetaminophen 650mg)
Gas - Gas X
Headaches/Migraines - Tylenol (Acetaminophen 650mg)
Heartburn/Indigestion - Tums, Mylanta, Prilosec, Pepcid, Maalox
Hemorrhoids - Preparation H, Anusol, Tucks Pads
Nausea - Small frequent meals, ginger ale, Unisom
Sinus/Allergies - Claritin, Benadryl, Vick’s Vapor Rub, Nasal Saline
Sleep Aid - Benadryl, Tylenol PM, Magnesium supplement
Sore Throat - Chloraseptic spray, Cepacol Spray, Cough drops
Yeast Infection - Monistat
